First Day of Camp Details

Don’t be nervous about the first day of camp, here are all of the details and frequently asked questions that will help you feel confident going into Day 1!

Hey There Literacy Camp 2024 Families!

We’re so excited that your child will be joining us for The Literacy Camp 2024! We wanted to share a few reminders & notes with you about the first day.

DROP-OFF/SIGN PAPERWORK

We’ll be eagerly waiting for your camper at 8:30 am if you’re coming to a morning or all day session or 12:30pm if you’re coming to an afternoon only session! Please do not enter the building. We’ll be outside waiting for you everyday at 8:30 am and/or 12:30 pm & we’ll have a table set up outside (weather permitting). We’re asking that all parents plan to park in the parking lot & walk your camper over to the table on the first day. **After the first day, you are welcome & encouraged to use the circle in front of the building to do a curbside drop-off. Please make sure your child stays in your vehicle until someone from Team Literacy Camp greets your child at the car to walk in – so that no child is walking through the parking lot please.** If you can’t tell – we like to keep everyone extra safe!

On the first day, each family will need to check in at our registration table. You’ll be receiving a car visor sign with your child’s name for pick-up & we’ll ask you to share how your child will be getting home from camp. All families will be asked to fill out a Literacy Camp Waiver. If you’d like to print, fill out at home, and upload – that will make the first day drop off process much faster. 🙂

If you’re leaving a medication at camp (inhaler, epipen, etc.), you will need to return a signed medication waiver. You can download, print, and upload this FORM ahead of time as well. If you are not able to download and print beforehand, we will have copies at camp for you to fill out. We have many campers signed up for each session, so please be aware that drop-off on the first day may take several minutes. We’ll have 2 lines & we’ll be as quick as possible to respect your time! Thanks for your understanding! All other days, drop-off will be much quicker.

WHAT TO BRING:

Please know that some of our day will be spent outside! Please send your child to camp in comfortable clothes & shoes. If you’d like your child to wear sunscreen and/or bug spray, please be sure to apply these before camp. If you would like to leave it at camp & have your child reapply, they are more than welcome! If your child will require help applying sunscreen, PLEASE PROVIDE WRITTEN PERMISSION on the Literacy Camp Waiver.

Each child will also need:

– Water bottle (labeled with name)

– Snack for each session***

– Packed lunch for those staying all day only

***Please send your child with a snack (and/or lunch if staying all day) that is PEANUT & TREE NUT FREE and not manufactured in a facility that processes these ingredients. We have children attending camp with severe allergies. Thank you so much for your willingness and understanding to help keep all of our campers safe!***

BOOKS & WRITING SUPPLIES

While we’ll have plenty of books & writing supplies available, we know that many of our little writers have favorite papers, notebooks & pens they like to use. Please feel free to send these supplies with them if they’d like (labeled by name)! If your child has a favorite book(s) that they enjoy reading independently, feel free to send that along too! We have many books & writing supplies to choose from for independent readers & writers too, so this is optional!

PICK-UP

We’ll be ready with your campers at 12:00 pm for our morning session pick-ups & 4:00 pm for afternoon or all day session pick-ups in the same place as drop off. Please do not enter the building – we’ll be outside to meet you when we are ready!

You’re welcome to drive up & stay in your car for curbside pickup. Please know that a member of Team Literacy Camp will walk your child to your car to connect with each person picking up. You’re also welcome to park & meet us outside the main doors but using the pick-up line is encouraged. One child will be released at a time to ensure they go with the correct adult – but we promise to work as quickly as possible!

Please attach the name paper we provide you with at registration to the visor of your car if possible – this makes things MUCH QUICKER.
