Hey There, I’m Katie.

Wife, Mama x3, Jesus follower. Teacher, reading specialist, curriculum designer & entrepreneur. Owner here at the main location of The Literacy Camp and trailblazer - helping Certified Literacy Camps open up that will serve more children!

I’m also known as The Literacy Lady, and believe education is the key to a better future. And I’m passionate about using education to make a MASSIVE impact in the world. INSPIRING LITERACY SUCCESS through HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION that is FUN!  

I also REALLY like beautiful journals & flair pens, ALL. THE. COFFEE. and comfy pants & jean jackets. 

I co-founded The Literacy Camp back in 2014! Why?

Because I wanted to be a part of the solution. I saw students, teachers & families frustrated by the learning loss that happened over the summer (on average in the US it’s 36%!!!) when kids lacked summer reading & writing opportunities.

I saw a need for summer camps for kiddos that LOVED to read, write, learn & thrive in these areas over the summer.

I heard teachers & families wishing it were easier to get kids to WANT to learn, LOVE learning & become LIFELONG learners.

So…The Literacy Camp was born with the mission to provide communities with a summer camp experience that engages kids in a way parents AND kids LOVE! To grow & develop a LOVE for reading & writing!

And now, it’s my honor working to create this access for more kids than ever before as I help educators open their own Certified Literacy Camp locations.

I’ve got a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Hope College & a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Michigan State University – with a Literacy & Language emphasis & a Reading Specialist certification. But most importantly … I love teaching & kiddos & making learning FUN!

Watching the growth of The Literacy Camp has been something I’m incredibly proud of – especially hearing parents talk about how much their kids love reading & writing after attending camp.
